We worked on the Directed Reading questions for the first part of the class while I helped those who were still uncertain of their weblog abilities.

I drew an outstanding picture on the board of the river, island and other significant things from the first 18 chapters of the novel.  We finished the class discussing the drawing and what the items represented.

HOMEWORK:  Review notes from class and prepare for quiz on Thursday.

WHAT’S NEXT:  Quiz Thursday.  Read up through 164 by Monday (2/12).

We discussed the historical aspects of the Restoration and Swift’s life.  Students did a journal entry (type II, 20 lines) imagining they were a “have” or a “have not” from that time period.

We spent the second half of the period thinking about things at THS we can satirize.  We worked on coming up with ideas to satirize and exaggerated scenes which would get the job done.  Some issues we discussed were parking, cafeteria, fees, etc.

The intro students took a quiz on All the President’s Men while the second year students continued working on their research projects.
