We watched the finish of the Huck Finn film and talked about how Huck is a symbol of America, warts and all.

We read and discussed Whitman’s “I Hear America Singing”.

HOMEWORK:  Be on time, bring your book, a pen/pencil and notebook.  Textbook check.

We discussed Whitman’s view of heroes in “Song of Myself #33″. We talked about the difference between martyrs and heroes.

HOMEWORK:  Study for vocab quiz on Unit 10 for Monday.

We finished up stringbooks and story generators today.

We reviewed Vocabulary Unit 10.  Then, we discussed “I Hear America Singing”.

We finished with another SAT practice essay based on a quote from Atticus Finch.

HOMEWORK:  Read 356-361 and answer “Shaping Interpretation” questions for both poems.  Study for vocabulary quiz.  Check for grade on Huck Finn essay and make revisions if necessary.

We began watching Good Night and Good Luck, a film about Edward R. Murrow’s battle with Senator Joe McCarthy in 1953.
