We spent half the period polishing up our essays on Google Docs. Final versions are due today.
Following that, we read “I Hear America Singing” and discussed how its style and subject were appropriate for the time.

We were missing the junior (course selection fair), so we worked on stringbooks and story generators.
HOMEWORK: Story Generators due Friday, stringbooks due on Thursday.

We read an article from the newspaper about a local town requiring prom goers to take a coach bus to the prom. We talked about writing a letter to the school committee about this issue and what our audience would be and how to approach the letter. We wrote the letter and discussed what techniques we used to persuade our audience.
HOMEWORK: Finish novels and write final journal entry. Novel presentations begin on Tuesday.
WHAT’S NEXT: Research paper.

We began a unit on the SAT essay today. I passed out the SAT Essay Guidelines to students, and we discussed how to answer the question. We answered a practice essay question using test conditions.
HOMEWORK: Read 342-346 and make a list of the 10 most important facts. Read 347-354 and answer questions on worksheet.

We began a unit on the SAT essay. I distributed the SAT Essay Guidelines, and we discussed strategies to attack the essay. For the final 25 minutes, we did a practice essay.
HOMEWORK: Read p. 342-346 and list the 10 most important facts from the article.
