We read some of the poems aloud.  Then we read “Song of Myself” #33 and tried to determine what qualities Whitman valued in his heroes.

After the break, we began to read the first chapter of The Great Gatsby.  We took some notes about characters, setting, etc.

HOMEWORK:  Finish chapter 1 of Gatsby.

Delayed Opening.  We read our poems out loud and talked about how they were composed, which lines stuck out and how to emphasize certain words or lines.  Then we looked at Whitman’s “Song of Myself” #52 (the last one) and tried to determine how Whitman viewed himself as portrayed in the poem.
