We began with a Type II on Whitman’s view of the American Dream.

I distributed copies of The Great Gatsby, and we reviewed the Whitman poems in preparation for the quiz on Wednesday.

HOMEWORK:  Read in the novel and study for the Whitman quiz.

We began with a lesson on plagiarism and then moved to a lesson on how to take notecards.  We finished by distributing copies of 1984 and talking about the concept of dystopia and how some of Orwell’s predictions about government intrusion on privacy have come true.

HOMEWORK:  Read chapter one of the novel and work on the research paper.

I returned the quizzes on Good Night and Good Luck and informed all that retakes and make-ups must be completed by Friday.  We looked at some award winning photos on line and talked about what made them special.  Some of the photos were not exactly what we would have thought as “award winning”.

We did a type two on what Whitman’s vision of the American Dream was based on his style and subject matter.   Following that, we discussed his poetry and prepared for the quiz on Tuesday.
