We took the test on Grendel today.

HOMEWORK:  Read 98-127 and answer Reading Check questions on p. 127. 

We did a quick lesson on redundancy and objectivity and then brainstormed ideas for next round of articles.  Story Generators were due.

HOMEWORK:   Next round of articles are due on Monday 10/8.

We spent the period working on our essays on Google Docs.

HOMEWORK:  Study vocabulary unit 3.  Vocab quiz on Tuesday, 10/2 

We spent most of the period working on our first body paragraph of the Bradford/Rowlandson essay.

HOMEWORK:  Study vocab and work on essay.  Vocab quiz will be on Monday, 10/1 and essay will be due Friday 10/5. 

We took the vocabulary quiz for unit 2 and discussed Grendel.

HOMEWORK:  Prepare for the Grendel test.

We looked at articles on the projector.

HOMEWORK:  Story Generators due on Friday. 

We set up everyone with a Google Docs account and most people typed in their first paragraph of the essay on it.

HOMEWORK:  Continue to work on the essay. 

We began by reading from The Scarlet Letter for about 25 minutes.

Next, we reviewed the vocabulary words from unit 2.

Finally, we reviewed proper thesis statement form.

HOMEWORK: Study for vocab quiz on unit 2 and continue to read The Scarlet Letter.

We read from Grendel for about twenty minutes.

Following that, I gave them their next essay assignment:

How does “Beowulf” and “The Canterbury Tales” show how society changed from the Anglo-Saxon period to the Middle Ages?

After that, we introduced “The Canterbury Tales” and began reading the Prologue.

HOMEWORK: For Wednesday, prepare for quiz on vocabulary Unit 2 and be prepared to discuss Grendel. For Monday, October 1, prepare for the test on Grendel and read the “Prologue” (107-127) and answer the reading check questions on page 127.

We discussed how to organize the introductory paragraph of an essay of literary analysis and talked about what specifically would be in our first paragraph.

HOMEWORK:  Write the introductory paragraph to our essay and find one similarity and one difference between the experiences of Bradford and Rowlandson.
