Most of the students were taking PSAT’s this morning, so the few who were left read their novels for the period.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and working on your journals.

We discussed the main “dramatic” moments from The Scarlet Letter in preparation for the test on Thursday.  I also returned the essays.

HOMEWORK:  Prepare for test on The Scarlet Letter.

We spent the period doing peer evaluations on the Anglo-Saxon/Middle Ages essays.

HOMEWORK:  Prepare for vocab quiz on Unit 3.  Read “The Death of Arthur” and answer Reading Check questions.

We reviewed the vocab words and began a chart which followed Huck’s honest and dishonest actions.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading and working on your journals.

We did peer evaluation of essays today.

HOMEWORK:  Study for vocabulary quiz (unit 3) and read “The Death of Arthur” and answer the Reading Check questions.

We began preparing for our stringbooks today.  We passed out a rubric for the articles.  Click here for a copy:  Journalism Article Rubric.  Stringbooks will be due on October 31.  Articles were due today.

HOMEWORK:  Story generators due on Friday.  Finish articles which were due today.

Today was a reading day.  Most students did not turn in their journals which were due today.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading in Huck Finn and working on journals.

We began with a Type II assignment (25 lines): Which character in the novel is the greatest sinner?

We finished with our group evaluations of the essays.

HOMEWORK:  Find five significant quotes from the novel and explain their significance.

We began with an little individual work time. Some students needed to finish the quizzes from last week. Others could work on the essay, study vocab or get started on the next reading — “The Death of Arthur”.

HOMEWORK: Essay due on Tuesday.  Please bring in two copies of the essay, one with your name and one without. Vocab quiz on Unit 3 on Thursday. Read “The Death of Arthur” (170-176) and answer Reading Check questions on p. 176.

We took the vocab quiz on the words from the first nine chapters of Huck Finn.  Scores were high!
