We took the quizzes on Macbeth, Act I and the Macbeth vocabulary.

NO HOMEWORK!

We spent the first part of the period discussing what is newsworthy, sensationalism and using some scenarios to determine what kind of information should be published.

The rest of the period we spent working on articles, and I met with some students to discuss their articles.

Story Generators were collected.

HOMEWORK:  Two articles due on December 7.

We took the quiz on the vocabulary words in Unit 4 today.  Once we finished the quiz, we went back through it to determine what type of words were needed in the blanks and tried to find the clues in the sentence which would help us find the correct answers.

NO HOMEWORK!

We reviewed the vocab words first, then we discussed “Snowbound” and pointed out the aspects of Romanticism found in it.

We then briefly reviewed the Longfellow poems and took a quiz on them.

HOMEWORK:  Prepare for the vocab quiz.

We watched the first act of Macbeth (Polanski version) and discussed the difference between the film version and the text.  We discussed Lady Macbeth’s character and her relationship with Macbeth.

HOMEWORK:  Study for vocab quiz on Macbeth words and prepare for quiz on Act I of the play.

We wrote stories using the vocab words in preparation for the quiz tomorrow.

HOMEWORK:  Study for the vocab quiz on unit 4.

We began by watching Act I of Macbeth (Polanski version) and then discussed the Act.

We began with some work on our writing (begin concise, avoiding redundancy).  Following that we reviewed one of the poll articles.

HOMEWORK:   Story Generators due on Friday.  Two articles due on 12/7.

We reviewed the vocabulary exercises from last night.  Then Lauren read her children’s version of Huck Finn that she did with Jillian.  Following that, we took the quiz on “Thanatopsis”.

HOMEWORK:  Finish the quiz on “Thanatopsis” and do the “Choosing the Right Word” exercise in unit 4 of the vocab book.

We began with a type II writing assignment (twenty lines): is nature chaotic or ordered?

We then reviewed the Longfellow poems.  I also posted a new list of vocabulary words.

HOMEWORK:   Look up the vocab words and read “Snowbound” on p. 182-185 and answer the “Shaping Interpretation” questions on p. 186.  The vocab quiz will be on Monday.
