We began reading “Resistance to Civil Government” and discussing its ideas.

HOMEWORK:  Finish reading the essay and answer all questions in margins.

UNIFIED CONTENT EXAM:  TUESDAY, JANUARY 22 AT 7:20 A.M.

We discussed “Walden” and how the ideas apply to the 21st Century.  After that, we began to discuss the concept of unjust and unfair laws to begin our study of “Civil Disobedience”.

HOMEWORK:  Read Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience” (or “Resistance to Civil Government”) and answer the reading check questions which follow.

Macbeth presentations took place today. After that, we began our review for the Unified Content Exams. Students were working together to create a Review Game or Presentation.

HOMEWORK: Work on projects.

We continued our discussion of unjust laws and began to talk about Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience”.

HOMEWORK:  Begin review for the Unified Content Exams.

We watched the student presentations of Macbeth and watched the final act on DVD.

HOMEWORK:  Papers and written portions of the projects due on Monday.

Great class today.  We continued with layout and new articles were submitted by most.

HOMEWORK:  Stringbooks and last story generators of the term are due next week.

We began with a type II writing assignment (20 lines) discussing unjust laws and when someone must break a law.  After the writing, we discussed these ideas.

HOMEWORK:  Begin preparing for the Unified Content Exam.

We finished our study of Emerson by discussing “Nature”.  We also looked at some of his aphorisms.

Students who opted for the Macbeth test took the test today while the rest of the class prepared for the presentations Friday.

HOMEWORK:  Finish projects.

We took a quiz on “Self-Reliance” today.  I also presented the class with an Extra Credit opportunity.  They can participate in the Poetry Out Loud competition.

HOMEWORK:  Read 230-244 and answer Reading Check questions on p. 246.
