We took the quiz on Chapters 18-31 today. A new set of vocabulary words were distributed as well.

HOMEWORK: Continue reading the novel and get the definitions for the vocab words. The novel should be finished by Tuesday, March 4.  Test on Thursday, March 6.  Next webpost assignment (found at varnumreading.edublogs.org) is due on Wednesday.

We began the Isn’t it Romantic? Poetry Project today.  Here is the list of poems to read: Period 5B Reading List.   Students worked on projects during class.

HOMEWORK:  First novel project assignment due on Wednesday.  Students should also read the poems on the reading list.

We began studying vocab unit 6 today.

Following that, we read “Heart, we will forget him” by Emily Dickinson and discussed its meaning.

HOMEWORK:  Do the “Completing the Sentence” and “Choosing the Right Word”  for vocab unit 6.  Second blog entries will be graded on Wednesday.

We were scheduled to have a quiz today on the second section of Huck Finn, but because I had been absent on Tuesday, I postponed the quiz.  We spent the beginning of class discussing the middle chapters of the novel.  We finished the class by watching a video on Twain’s life.

HOMEWORK:  Review for quiz on Monday, 2/25.

We began working on the Independent Reading Project – Grade 12 today.   The first assignment is due on 2/27.

HOMEWORK:  Begin reading your novel.

We took a quiz on “Song of Myself” #10 and began to discuss #33.

HOMEWORK:  Complete worksheets on Whitman.

We went to the library to begin work on our 19th century novel project.  Here is the assignment:  Independent Reading Project – Grade 12

I also collected the essays.

HOMEWORK:  Begin reading your novel/play.

Articles were due today. Some spent the period doing the articles, some read the articles already posted and suggested revisions.

HOMEWORK: Work on article revisions and story generators (due on Friday).

We began by writing a Type II assignment on kindness (done for us or by us).  It is in conjunction with the Friends of Rachel “Random Acts of Kindness” week.

We then finished reading “Song of Myself” #10 and talked about the qualities of America that Whitman portrays in the poem.

HOMEWORK:  Work on weblogs for the week.

We took the quiz on the first 18 chapters of Huck Finn today.

HOMEWORK: Continue reading in the novel and comment on two classmate’s blogs.
