We reviewed Unit 8 vocabulary and continued reading The Great Gatsby.

HOMEWORK:  Do “Completing the Sentences” for unit 8 of the vocab book.

We read Browning’s “Porfyeria’s Lover” and talked about how it shed light on attitudes about death, religion and love in the 19th century.  Following that, we worked on our novels and papers.

HOMEWORK:  Continue working on novels and papers.

We began with a Type II writing about Gatsby.  Why did he die and why did the author kill him off?

After that, we discussed the end of the novel and reviewed for the test on Monday.

HOMEWORK:  Review for test on Monday.

We read Browning’s “How Do I Love Thee” poem.  We determined that it could be used for either women or love in the research paper.

HOMEWORK:  Continue working on novels and papers. 

We looked at the beginning of chapter 6 regarding Gatsby’s past.  After that, we read some Langston Hughes to give students the other side of the Jazz Age.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading The Great Gatsby.  Novel should be finished by 4/10.

I talked  about blending quotations with your own words and we reviewed first deadlines which are coming up.  Students worked on novels or papers for the rest of the class.

HOMEWORK:  Continue working on novels and papers.

We read Chapter 6 and the beginning of 7 in The Great Gatsby.

HOMEWORK:  Review Chapters 1-5 for quiz tomorrow.  Bring Vocabulary Book tomorrow.

We finally finished the layout of issue number 3. Story Generators were turned in as well.

HOMEWORK: Articles due on Friday.
