I met with individual students to discuss their college essays. While I did that, students met in small groups to continue reading the play.
HOMEWORK: Finish reading Act IV and prepare for a one minute drill on Thursday. Finish reading entire play by Monday, October 6.
NEW WEBLOG ENTRY DUE BY MONDAY, OCTOBER 6:
- Reread Act III, Scene 3, lines 37 to the end.
- Explain how Shakespeare portrays Claudius as a sympathetic character.
- Explain what Hamlet’s reasoning for not killing Claudius at this time says about Hamlet’s character.

We heard the last of the blogs of war presentation and then had individual conferences with students on their writing. Other students were writing a concluding piece on the project or continued reading The Kite Runner.

We watched the “play within a play” scene and compared the definition of bipolar disorder with Hamlet’s behavior – they match up pretty well. The rest of the class was spent in conferences with individual students.

We looked at an article from the Boston Globe on steps high schools are taking to crack down on student drinking. We looked at the sources used and some of the strengths and weaknesses of the writing.
HOMEWORK: Prepare questions for Dr. Lockwood’s visit on Wednesday. New articles due on Friday.

We watched some scenes from Hamlet and discussed how the choices by the director influenced the way we interpret the play.
We also looked at the symptoms of BiPolar Disorder and applied them to Hamlet’s character.
HOMEWORK: Re read the remainder of Act III.

We began with a type two writing on some of the relationships in The Kite Runner.
After that, we began discussion of the first 8 chapters of the book.
