We talked about college application essays and read some examples from the past.

We pretended that we were a college admissions committee who have five applicants for two remaining spaces. We read essays from five former THS students and decided who we would accept based on those essays.

We began with our first list of vocabulary words and talked about how to study for these tests. We talked about sentence completion questions and how flash cards are not enough any more.

After that we began the “Voyage to Zoltan” creative writing assignment.

HOMEWORK: Find working definitions for vocabulary words and continue to work on the American Dream project.

We looked at the different sections of a newspaper and talked about Story Generators. We also talked about the FORK method of newswriting. We began talking about Focus and Order.

HOMEWORK: Read chapter 2 in the text (Laws, Ethics and Policy) and come up with three story ideas.
