We pretended that we were an admissions board and read some sample application essays to determine who would get admitted.
After that we looked at the essays the student’s submitted, focusing on the first sentence.
HOMEWORK: Revise essay, focusing on first sentence and using specific detail.

We continued working on college application drafts, focusing on the first sentence and using the active voice.

We worked on working definitions of our vocabulary words and talked more about strategies for answering sentence completion questions. The vocabulary quiz will be on Friday.
HOMEWORK: Continue working on your American Dream project and reviewing your vocabulary words.

We talked about laws and ethics today. We reviewed the difference between the Mass state law which protects student speech and the federal rulings. We talked about some scenarios where we would have to decide if an article should be written.
We reviewed other aspects of chapter 2. There will be a quiz on Monday.
HOMEWORK: Story generators, story ideas and review chapter 2.
