We began research on the Invisible Man website today.

We talked about the difference between a hero and an anti-hero in relation to the main characters in the things we’ve read and watched so far.

We continued to work on articles and layout today.  Deadline is Monday.

We talked about Huck’s “code of honesty” today by looking at when he lies and when he decides to tell the truth.

After that, we listened to more of the audio recording.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading the novel.  Up through chapter 31 is due on Wednesday, February 4.

We discussed “Soldier’s Home” by Hemingway and compared it to the Norman Bowker story from The Things They Carried and Ron Kovics story in Born on the Fourth of July.

I also passed out copies of the reading schedule for The Killer Angels.

We continued to work on articles for the next deadline (Monday).  We also continued to work on layout for the next issue.

We concluded our viewing of Minority Report and talked about the connections with 1984.

We discussed the Invisible Man website project and assigned partners and topics.

We took a quiz on Letters from Iwo Jima today.

Following the quiz, I handed out copies of Hemingway’s “Soldier’s Home” and copies of the novel The Killer Angels.

HOMEWORK:  Read “Soldier’s Home” and answer the questions 1-6 which follow.

We drew a picture of the Mississippi River and put in some elements from the first 13 chapters of Huck Finn.  Students used this lesson as a review of the first part of the book.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading the novel and prepare for vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

We worked on articles today and began layout for our next issue.
