We looked at the most recent Swine Flu articles from the Boston Herald and Lowell Sun.  We also looked at the Sun article about the impending layoffs in the Tyngsborough school system.

We finished reviewing the vocab exercises and continued with the first chapter of The Great Gatsby.  I also returned the personal essays.

HOMEWORK:  Review vocabulary words for tomorrow’s quiz.  Revisions of personal essays are due on Monday.

Great Books B

We talked about graduation speeches today.  They have to write a graduation speech and deliver it to the class.  Here is the rubric for the assignment.

Following that, we watched the second act of My Fair Lady.

After that, we reviewed Act III of Henry V in preparation for the quiz on Friday.

American Lit

We reviewed the answers from the “Completing the Sentences” exercise from Vocab unit 12.

After that we read the biography of F. Scott Fitzgerald from the textbook and took notes on his life.  Following that, we began reading the first chapter of The Great Gatsby.

HOMEWORK:  Study vocabulary words.

Great Books A

Maya Angelou 1993 Bill Clinton Inauguration

We held a poetry reading “al fresco” today.  We found a shady spot outside and read poems by Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Maya Angelou, Eddie Vedder and others.  Students commented briefly about their chosen poems.  Overall, an excellent class.  Freshmen orientation speeches were due today.

HOMEWORK:  Continue reading the novel and working on the paper.
